Another older page. Some of you Kickstarter patrons have seen this one as part of the Maelstrom portfolio. Yup, true page, not a fake and here’s bunch of sketches that proves it…
Right out of the gate, I tried to add the thumbnail sketch to another older image to see how it would look. This is a city scene, but it’s obvious why it didn’t work. The background picture was eating too much space. It was making the inside panel look to small.
Yes, the first panel is almost complete, but I added it to fill the space later. It was only a blank space at the time.

Here’s a more precise version that’s a bit bigger in size (with the first panel added). Note the changing size of the woman in panel 4 from this to the later versions…
Moving on, I started from that sketch to “pose” the characters. Trying different poses and angles…
With some reference for the coats…
That, once combined in Photoshop, gave me the final pencils…
Then I zoomed in on the old woman a bit more, but it was a bit too much…
Then came the inking… which, due to a lack of foresight, wasn’t put on video… :-/
