Let’s follow up with another page from the “old” scene. Some of you will remember it, but in a slightly different way. There I was, rewriting the scenario and realizing that I needed to change this sequence.
For this one, I hesitated. I didn’t know if this page (and the next) was just redundant and made the action slow down. I still don’t know. You tell me.
What made me keep it is the design, although I wanted to get the story moving progressively faster with more panels per page, the idea was too cool to throw in the dustbin.
Here’s how I did MAELSTROM page 2.
Compared to the Photoshop illustration on page 1, this page here is done in the most traditional manner. Yes, it’s pen and brush with india ink, but it doesn’t mean I didn’t use the computer at all.
At last, the first batch of artwork has been sent to the printer.
Man, what’s a year it’s been!
I won’t bother you with the oft related highs and lows of 2013, you’ve read all about it here, but it’s difficult not to look back and be amazed at the generous response to the S13 graphic novel related Kickstarter campaign. It appears that there’s only a 13% success rate in this price bracket. I may have hesitated if I’d known that beforehand.
December already?!? Being so immersed in work makes one forget time and place. Last summer, when preparation for the Kickstarter campaign began, Christmas seemed so far away…
